The resolution also sheds light on the progress and challenges faced by the city of Boston. According to data from the Boston Public Health Commission, there has been a 29 percent decline in opioid-related deaths in 2025. However, certain neighborhoods such as Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and the South End continue to experience disproportionately higher age-adjusted opioid-related death rates compared to the rest of the city between 2022 and 2025.

In light of these statistics, the Council urges residents and institutions across Boston to join in celebrating those making strides towards recovery. It also calls for increased awareness of available resources for substance abuse prevention and recovery.
