~ As the year comes to a close, the city of Boston is gearing up for its annual First Night celebration on New Year's Eve. This highly anticipated event, which will take place on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, is expected to draw large crowds and will feature a variety of activities and performances.

In order to ensure the safety and smooth flow of the event, several parking restrictions will be in place throughout the day on Wednesday. These restrictions will affect various streets in the city, including Cambridge Street, Arlington Street, Atlantic Avenue, Beacon Street, Blagden Street, Boylston Street, Charles Street, Charles Street South, Court Street, and Tremont Street.

To encourage attendees to use alternative modes of transportation and reduce traffic congestion in the city center, organizers are encouraging people to walk, bike or take public transit to the event. In fact, the MBTA will be offering free rides after 8:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Updated holiday schedules can be found on their website.

For those who do choose to drive to First Night Boston 2026, it is important to note that parking restrictions will be strictly enforced. The designated areas for parking restrictions include Cambridge Street from Bowdoin Street to Somerset Street on the south side (even side), Arlington Street from Beacon Street to Boylston Street on both sides, Atlantic Avenue from East India Row to Commercial Street on the east side and from Commercial Wharf to Cross Street on the west side.

Other affected areas include Beacon Street from Charles Street to Arlington street on both sides; Blagden street from Dartmouth street to Exeter street on both sides; Boylston street from Arlington street to Charles street on the north side (Public Garden side) and both sides from Charles street to Tremont street; Cambridge street from Court street to Sudbury street on both sides; Charles street west side (Public Garden side) from Boylston street to Beacon street; Charles street south west side (odd side, opposite the Transportation Building) from Park Plaza to Boylston street; Court street east side (City Hall side) from Court Square inbound to Cambridge street; and Tremont street on both sides from Court Street to Boylston Street.

With these parking restrictions in place, attendees are advised to plan their transportation accordingly and arrive early to avoid any delays. First Night Boston 2026 promises to be a memorable event and the city is looking forward to welcoming everyone for a night of celebration and fun.
