Boston: Vision Zero 2030

~ Boston City Council Reaffirms Commitment to Vision Zero 2030 Initiative
In a unanimous decision, the Boston City Council has adopted a resolution reaffirming the city's commitment to the Vision Zero 2030 initiative. This initiative aims to eliminate fatal and severe traffic crashes in Boston by the year 2030.
The resolution, which was passed on Tuesday, notes that Boston joined the Vision Zero campaign in 2015 with the goal of reaching zero traffic fatalities by 2030. This goal was inspired by the belief that even one traffic death is one too many. Since then, the city has taken steps to advance this goal, including reducing the default speed limit and launching the Neighborhood Slow Streets program.

However, despite these efforts, traffic fatalities and severe crashes continue to be a concern in Boston. With less than four years remaining to reach the Vision Zero 2030 goal, the Council is urging the city to strengthen its approach through ambitious infrastructure projects that prioritize safety for all travelers – whether they are on foot, bicycle, transit or in a vehicle.
The resolution also highlights the need for continued action and updates to Boston's Vision Zero Action Plan based on progress and measured results. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to Vision Zero and its dedication to making Boston's streets safer for everyone who travels throughout the city. Every trip through Boston should be safe – whether it's by foot, bicycle, transit or vehicle – and this resolution serves as a reminder of that commitment.
