Boston: Walworth Street Bridge Construction Advisory
TelAve News/10884685
~ The City of Boston has announced that they will be conducting proactive maintenance on the Walworth Street Bridge in West Roxbury. This regular maintenance is part of the city's efforts to ensure the safety and functionality of their bridges.
According to a press release, the repairs will take place on the bridge that crosses over the MBTA Commuter Rail tracks between Robert Street and the West Roxbury Parkway. The work is expected to begin as early as Monday, January 6, 2026, pending approval from the MBTA and availability of personnel to manage the railway during construction.
The city's team will only have access to complete the repairs during times when trains are not operating, which means that work will primarily take place between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The bridge will remain open to pedestrians and vehicles throughout the duration of the project.

However, residents living near the bridge may experience some disruptions due to noise from construction activities. The contractor will be removing portions of the old structure, which may cause occasional loud noises, especially during demolition phases. These phases are expected to last for about a week at a time.
The entire project is estimated to take 5-6 months based on access granted by the MBTA. The City of Boston apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this necessary maintenance work. Residents with questions or concerns can contact 311 or email publicworks@boston.gov for more information.
