~ Colorado Springs Fire Department Implements Burn Restrictions to Protect Community
On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 8 a.m., the Colorado Springs Fire Department Fire Marshal, Kris Cooper, announced the implementation of burn restrictions for the City of Colorado Springs. These restrictions are necessary due to increased dry fuels and unfavorable weather conditions that could potentially lead to fire hazards.
According to the Burn Restriction Order 2026-R1, all types of fires, including open or contained fires in undeveloped wildland areas, brushy areas, or grassy areas are prohibited. This also includes recreational fires and bonfires. Additionally, outdoor smoking in all city parks and open spaces is not allowed.
The order also prohibits the operation of small internal combustion engines without a properly installed, maintained, and functioning spark arrestor. Recreational fireworks or ignition devices such as sparklers, snakes, aerials, comets, flares, flyers, fountains, missiles, mortars, spinners, punks, rockets and shells are also prohibited at all times. Trash or rubbish burning is also not allowed at any time.

Residents are urged to call 911 if they observe smoke or any activity that may lead to a fire. It is important for them to report it instead of assuming that the fire department has already been notified. To stay informed about critical notifications regarding fires and evacuations in their area, residents can sign up for emergency alerts at peakalerts.org.
The community is reminded to follow the guidelines outlined in the Burn Restriction Guide to ensure their safety and prevent any potential fire hazards during this time. The Colorado Springs Fire Department urges everyone to cooperate with these restrictions for the protection of themselves and their community.
