California: Governor Newsom on Republicans losing challenge to new Congressional maps at U.S. Supreme Court
TelAve News/10887613
~ In a recent decision, the U.S. Supreme Court has denied a challenge brought by California Republicans and supported by former President Trump's Department of Justice regarding the state's new Congressional maps. This news comes as a victory for Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta, who have been vocal in their support for the new maps.
Governor Newsom released a statement in response to the decision, stating that "Donald Trump said he was 'entitled' to five more Congressional seats in Texas. He started this redistricting war. He lost, and he'll lose again in November." This statement highlights the contentious nature of the redistricting process and the involvement of former President Trump.
Attorney General Bonta also expressed his satisfaction with the Supreme Court's decision, stating that it is "good news not only for Californians, but for our democracy." He went on to remind people of how this challenge came about, with former President Trump telling Governor Greg Abbott that Republicans were entitled to more seats in Texas. In response, Governor Newsom and the state legislature advanced Proposition 50, which was ultimately supported by Californians.

This latest win marks the seventh time that Attorney General Bonta's office has successfully defended Proposition 50 on behalf of Governor Newsom and Secretary of State Weber. The proposition was presented to voters as a way to address explicitly partisan redistricting efforts.
In other news from Governor Newsom's office, it was announced that LA Rises will be receiving funding to support youth mental health for survivors of the LA firestorm. This funding will go towards a UCLA Health program that provides stronger mental health support and healing for those affected by the disaster.
Additionally, Governor Newsom celebrated a major milestone in California's high-speed rail project with the completion of a new railhead. This marks a critical step in the track installation phase for what will be the nation's only high-speed rail system under construction.
Finally, Governor Newsom's statewide Jobs First investments have proven successful in creating jobs and training workers. In 2025 alone, these investments have led to the creation of over 61,000 jobs and the training of more than 142,000 workers across all 13 economic regions in California. This initiative has sparked economic growth and provided opportunities for Californians across the state.
