~ In preparation for the upcoming 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Governor Gavin Newsom has signed several bills to support Los Angeles' efforts to host the global event. The signing took place at Exposition Park, in front of the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which will serve as the main venue for the Games.
The $7 million investment announced by Governor Newsom adds to the $96.5 million previously allocated for upgrading and modernizing Exposition Park. This historic venue will be the first ever to host three different Summer Olympic Games, making it a significant part of California's sporting legacy.
These new bills not only provide crucial support for the city and county's preparations but also prioritize public safety partnerships and aid student-athletes competing in the world games. As Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Assemblymember Tina McKinnor expressed her pride in partnering with Governor Newsom on AB 2411, which establishes the California Olympic and Paralympic Public Safety Command. She emphasized the importance of ensuring safety for all athletes, visitors, workers, and communities during this major event.

Reynold Hoover, CEO of LA28, expressed his gratitude towards Governor Newsom and the State Legislature for their unwavering support towards creating a successful and memorable event. He believes that these actions reflect their shared ambition to showcase California's innovation and spirit on a global stage.
With these bills in place, California is well on its way to delivering an exceptional experience for fans and athletes alike during this historic run of sporting events. As Governor Newsom stated, "The Golden State is in the middle of a historic run of sporting events, and these bills allow the state the ability to continue to deliver for fans and athletes alike - all across the world." The 2028 Games will undoubtedly be a once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase California's excellence and leave a lasting legacy for years to come.
