~ Sterling Heights, MI - As Earth Month approaches, residents of Sterling Heights are gearing up to celebrate and make a positive impact on their community. With sustainability at the forefront, the city is encouraging its residents to make small changes in their daily lives that can have a big impact on the environment.

One of the ways to "Think Sterling Green" is by growing your own produce in the Community Garden. This not only promotes healthy eating but also reduces emissions by cutting down on transportation. Another way to reduce emissions is by biking instead of driving along the city's trails, which also allows residents to enjoy the outdoors.

In addition, residents are encouraged to swap single-use plastics for reusable bags, bottles, and containers. These small shifts can add up and contribute to a cleaner and healthier city. To further promote sustainability, there will be hands-on programs throughout the month for residents to participate in.

On April 11th, residents can learn how to extend their growing season by creating a mini greenhouse at the Nature Center. This program is open to ages 12 and up and registration can be done online. On April 18th, adults ages 18 and up can join a free program at the Nature Center to learn about nesting and courtship behavior in animals.

The city will also be celebrating its 41st consecutive "Tree City USA" designation by planting trees at Dodge Park on April 21st. This event aims to continue growing the city's tree canopy.

Residents can also mark their calendars for DPW Spring Clean-Up Days from April 11th-25th at 7200 18 Mile Road. These events are exclusively for Sterling Heights residents and include electronics recycling day, household hazardous waste day, shred day, and spring clean-up days.
