Chicago: ICYMI: Mayor Brandon Johnson's ICE Playbook Spreads as Cities Challenge Trump's Crackdown
TelAve News/10892091
CHICAGO ~ Chicago's Immigration Playbook Spreads Across the Country
Cities across the United States have taken a page out of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson's playbook in response to President Trump's aggressive immigration policies. According to POLITICO, officials from Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, New York, and various cities in Illinois have joined forces with the Johnson administration to implement measures aimed at pushing back against the federal government's crackdown on immigration.
Mayor Johnson has been a vocal advocate for protecting immigrant communities and has been working closely with other city leaders to share his strategies for standing up against the Trump administration. "We're stronger when we stand together," said Mayor Johnson. "I am grateful for all of the leaders across the country who are following our example and standing up to protect immigrant communities from Trump's attacks on our shared humanity."
Thanks to these collaborative efforts, approximately 10% of the U.S. population, representing more than 30 municipalities, is now under executive orders or local laws modeled after Chicago's response to Trump's immigration policies.

POLITICO highlights some key excerpts from Chicago's ICE playbook that have been adopted by other cities:
- In response to Trump's "Operation Midway Blitz," Mayor Johnson signed a series of executive orders aimed at curbing immigration enforcement.
- These measures include banning federal agents from using city property for operations, directing Chicago police officers to work with demonstrators during protests instead of shutting them down, and pushing for investigations into allegations of wrongdoing by federal agents.
- The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a proposal to create ICE-free zones on county property after discussions with Chicago officials.
- Other cities that have used Chicago's executive order language as a basis for their own orders include Seattle; Providence, Rhode Island; Minneapolis; Santa Clara County; San Jose; and Los Angeles County.
- In January, Alameda County and Oakland also created their own ICE-free zones after consulting with Mayor Johnson.
Mayor Johnson credits Chicago's "full force of government approach" to its role in the Civil Rights Movement as the inspiration for their fight for justice. As more cities join in this movement, it is clear that Chicago's playbook has become a model for pushing back against the Trump administration's immigration policies.
