Many homeowners are unaware that they are responsible for maintaining and repairing the water service line and sewer lateral that connects their property to CBU's mains. Through this partnership, CBU customers now have access to optional protection plans for exterior water and sewer service lines, as well as in-home plumbing systems at preferred pricing.

CBU Director Katherine Zaiger stated, "Home maintenance can come with unexpected expenses, and repairs to underground water and sewer service lines can be among the most costly. This partnership gives Bloomington residents an optional and affordable way to prepare for these repairs."

One particular concern for Bloomington residents is tree root intrusion. As a certified Tree City of the World, Bloomington's urban canopy adds charm to the community but can also cause damage to underground infrastructure. Additionally, parts of Bloomington's older sewer infrastructure and private sewer service connections are made of clay piping, which can be prone to cracking and leakage over time.
