This marks the fourth consecutive year that Chicago has received this prestigious honor, highlighting the city's ongoing commitment to advancing digital equity and closing the digital divide for all residents.
In his statement, Mayor Johnson emphasized the importance of digital access in today's world. The NDIA's Digital Inclusion Trailblazers program sets a national benchmark for excellent digital inclusion work by local governments. Municipal, county, and regional governments that have demonstrated strong and intentional efforts to create digitally inclusive communities are recognized as Trailblazers. Those that achieve the highest level of recognition - Visionary Trailblazer status - have deeply integrated digital inclusion strategies throughout their government and community programs.
Chicago's efforts in digital inclusion have been extensive and diverse. The city has expanded access to high-speed internet, strengthened community partnerships, promoted digital skills training, and prioritized inclusive technology policy. These efforts have positioned Chicago as a model for other communities across the country.
Through innovative programs designed to meet residents where they are, Chicago continues to narrow longstanding gaps in internet access, device ownership, and digital literacy. "Digital inclusion is essential to full participation in today's economy and society," said Director of Digital Equity Christian Taylor. "This recognition honors the work of our residents, community partners, and City departments who have collectively built systems and services that help people connect, learn, work, and thrive in the digital age."

By contributing to a national repository of local government solutions, Chicago hopes to support digital inclusion efforts both locally and beyond. The city will celebrate this achievement with fellow Digital Inclusion Trailblazers when it hosts NDIA's 2026 Net Inclusion Conference on the historic Chicago Riverwalk in February 2026.
Mayor Johnson and the City of Chicago are proud to receive this recognition for their ongoing efforts in promoting digital equity and inclusion. As technology continues to play a crucial role in our daily lives, Chicago remains committed to ensuring that all residents have equal access and opportunities in the digital world.
