City of Colorado Springs' Chief of Staff Jamie Fabos announces departure
TelAve News/10886157
~ Colorado Springs Chief of Staff Jamie Fabos has announced her departure from the City effective Feb. 16, after successfully overseeing the administration transition for Mayor Yemi Mobolade and launching numerous impactful programs.
Fabos' leadership and dedication were praised by Mayor Yemi Mobolade, who stated, "Jamie brought a no-nonsense, 'get it done' energy to our work. She is an exceptional operator who earned the trust of her team by consistently supporting and empowering the people around her." The Mayor also commended Fabos for her ability to manage multiple priorities, reorganize operations for maximum effectiveness, and keep critical projects moving with speed and precision.
During her tenure with the City, Fabos achieved several notable accomplishments. She was instrumental in designing and planning the Keep it Clean and Safe Program, which addresses the impacts of homelessness on key corridors. She also played a crucial role in addressing police staffing shortages, helping the Colorado Springs Police Department reach over 800 officers for the first time in City history. Additionally, Fabos provided critical leadership in balancing the City's budget by overcoming multi-year deficits through innovative budget efficiencies.

One of Fabos' most significant achievements was passing legislation to allow the Colorado Springs Fire Department to join the state's Firefighter Heart and Cancer Trust. This move provides vital medical support to the city's first responders. She also oversaw a reorganization of city departments that resulted in improved service to residents through increased efficiency and collaboration.
Reflecting on her time with the City, Fabos stated, "It's been an honor to serve the city I've called home for over 20 years." Despite not initially planning to work in government as a sports professional at heart, she found her last ten years eye-opening in terms of "the quality of employees, their dedication to public service, and their ability to complete work with limited resources." Fabos expressed pride in leading such a fantastic team of people and the accomplishments they have achieved together.
Fabos' career with the City began in 2013 when she was appointed as Chief Communications Officer under Mayor John Suthers. In between administrations, she served as General Manager of Public Affairs for Colorado Springs Utilities. As Chief Communications Officer, Fabos led the city through the COVID-19 pandemic and handled crisis communications for nationally-covered events, including the Planned Parenthood shooting. She also successfully launched the rebranding of the City as Olympic City USA and earned notable media coverage for the City's multi-year run as the most desirable city in America, according to U.S. News and World Report.

Following Fabos' departure, Deputy Chief of Staff Travis Easton will assume the role of Acting Chief of Staff until a national search is conducted to fill the position. Regional candidates will be given priority in this search. The City of Colorado Springs will undoubtedly miss Fabos' leadership and dedication, but her lasting mark on the city's future will not be forgotten.
