City of Long Beach Now Accepting Nominations for Third Annual of Veterans Banner Program
TelAve News/10892101
Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has announced that they are now accepting nominations for the third annual Long Beach Veterans Banner Program. This program aims to honor and recognize the contributions of veterans by displaying individual banners at various locations across the city.
Last year, 65 veterans were honored through this program and their banners were displayed throughout Long Beach. This year, the Health Department's Office of Veterans Support, in partnership with the Long Beach Veterans Commission, will select up to 65 veterans to be honored. The banners will be displayed for one year, starting in summer 2026.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his support for the program, stating that it offers a meaningful and visible way to honor those who have served our country. He also highlighted how this program celebrates the rich naval history of Long Beach.
Community members are encouraged to nominate any veteran, living or deceased, who meets one of the following eligibility criteria: being born or raised in Long Beach, currently working or previously worked in Long Beach, currently residing or previously resided in Long Beach, being educated in Long Beach, or having been stationed or worked at various military facilities in Long Beach.

Nominations for the Veterans Banner Program are now open and will be accepted until April 15th, 2026. Applicants will need to identify which eligibility criteria their nominee meets and provide information about their military service including branch, dates of service, duties performed, rank attained, and any notable honors or awards received. They will also need to describe any connections the veteran nominee may have to Long Beach and provide a bio and high-resolution photo if selected for the program.
The Long Beach Veterans Commission will review all applications to ensure eligibility requirements are met. Selected honorees will be notified by May 2026. To reduce selection bias, all applications will be anonymized during the review process.
This year's program was made possible by a one-time increase in funding, approved as part of the City's Adopted Fiscal Year 2026 Budget. This will support expanded outreach and education efforts by the Long Beach Veterans Commission.
To submit a nomination or for more information, people can use the Veterans Banner Program nomination form or visit longbeach.gov/vetsbanner. The City of Long Beach encourages everyone to participate in this program and honor the brave men and women who have served our country.
