City of Mesa Announces New Transportation Director

~ Mesa, AZ - The City of Mesa has announced the appointment of Erik Guderian as the new Director of the Transportation Department. Guderian, who has been serving as the Interim Department Director since March 2025, officially transitioned to the permanent role on December 2, 2025 following the passing of former Department Director RJ Zeder.
City Manager Scott Butler expressed his confidence in Guderian's ability to lead the department to new heights. "Erik brings the foundational expertise and institutional knowledge needed to lead the Transportation Department to the next level," said Butler. "We are fortunate to have someone who has earned the trust of both staff and community stakeholders. His appointment ensures a seamless and positive transition for the department."

With over 20 years of experience in transportation engineering and planning, Guderian has a strong focus on building and maintaining infrastructure that allows residents to safely reach their destinations on a daily basis. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Mesa and work alongside our outstanding Transportation Department team," said Guderian. "Together, we will continue to maintain and grow our transportation network that allows everyone to move safely and efficiently within our city."
Guderian has been with the City of Mesa's Transportation Department since 2015, previously serving as Assistant Transportation Director. Prior to his time with Mesa, he worked for the Town of Gilbert, AZ and as a transportation consultant in Denver, CO.
The City of Mesa is confident that Guderian's leadership will bring continued success and improvement to their transportation system. Residents can look forward to safe and efficient travel within their city under his direction.
