City of Yonkers Receives Perfect Score of 100 for the 11th Consecutive Year

YONKERS, NY ~ Yonkers, NY - The City of Yonkers has once again received a perfect score of 100 on the Municipal Equality Index (MEI) report, marking the eleventh consecutive year of achieving this feat. This puts Yonkers in the company of 132 other cities across the nation out of the 506 cities surveyed.
The MEI is a comprehensive assessment that evaluates how inclusive municipal laws, policies, and services are for LGBTQ+ individuals. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano proudly announced this achievement today, highlighting the city's commitment to advancing equality and inclusion for all.
"Our city has always been dedicated to honoring and uplifting every individual, regardless of who they love," said Mayor Spano. "This perfect score is a testament to our belief that everyone deserves safe spaces to work, play, and live authentically. It also shows that meaningful progress is not only attainable but deeply valued and essential in building a stronger and more united community."

Yonkers was recognized in several categories including non-discrimination laws, municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement, and leadership on LGBTQ+ equality. Anthony Nicodemo, Chair of Mayor Spano's LGBTQ Advisory Board expressed his pride in living in a city that fosters an inclusive environment.
"Under Mayor Spano's leadership, LGBTQ+ individuals in Yonkers are able to safely live and work every day," said Nicodemo. "Earning a perfect score for eleven consecutive years is a testament to the efforts of many who want to see Yonkers prosper for all people."
Michael Sabatino, Yonkers Director of Human Rights and Mayor's Liaison to the LGBTQ Advisory Board also praised this achievement.
"This is a great accomplishment for Yonkers," said Sabatino. "Thanks to Mayor Spano and his administration for ensuring that our LGBTQ+ residents receive the respect and rights they deserve as citizens of our city. Our diversity is our strength."
