Colorado Announces Proposal to Annex Northern New Mexico, Protecting State From Texas Aggression
TelAve News/10892272
DENVER ~ In a surprising turn of events, Governor Jared Polis of Colorado has proposed a plan to annex northern New Mexico, including the city of Santa Fe. This proposal comes in response to the recent announcement from the Texas House Speaker that they are considering taking over parts of New Mexico for their oil.
Governor Polis believes that this move would not only protect the rich history and arts scene of New Mexico from Texas' failed leadership, but also expand access to the world-renowned Pueblo chile. "The Santa Fe area will be a great addition to Colorado," stated Governor Polis. "We would be thrilled to welcome our friends in Northern New Mexico to our great state and protect them from aggression from Texas."
The proposed annexation would include the land north of Albuquerque, which would become Colorado territory. Additionally, there would be a renaming of the popular "Hatch Green Chile" to "Southern Pueblo Chile". The annexed area itself would be known as Casa Bonita Del Sur County.

This is not the first time that Colorado and New Mexico have shared land. Prior to 1850, they both shared what is now known as the San Luis Valley. However, in 1861, Congress created the Colorado Territory which split the valley between the two states.
With a strong heritage in farming and ranching, both Colorado and New Mexico have thriving agricultural industries. Governor Polis believes that this proposal would only strengthen these industries and benefit farmers and ranchers across Southern Colorado by increasing green chile output.
The proposal will go to a vote of the people before any action is taken. However, it should be noted that this entire proposal is an April Fool's joke. Governor Polis made it clear that this idea is just as ridiculous as Texas' real plan to take over parts of New Mexico for their oil or President Trump's very real idea to take over Greenland.
In reality, both Colorado and New Mexico are proud states with their own unique cultures and histories. While they may share a border, the idea of one state annexing the other is far-fetched and not something that either state would seriously consider. As Governor Polis stated, "Let's stick to celebrating our individual strengths and working together as neighbors, rather than trying to take over each other's land."
