Colorado Artificial Intelligence Policy Workgroup Delivers Unanimous Support for Revised Policy Framework
TelAve News/10891025
DENVER ~ In Denver, the Colorado AI Policy Work Group, a diverse coalition consisting of consumer groups, hospitals, school districts, and technology companies of all sizes, has come together to show their support for a policy framework that addresses the use of AI and Automated Decision Making Systems (ADMT) in consequential decisions affecting consumers. This group was convened by Governor Jared Polis with the goal of protecting consumers, promoting innovation, and ensuring that Colorado remains connected to national policy trends.
The work group was established last fall and has since dedicated countless hours to researching national policy trends, identifying potential risks and goals, and negotiating the framework that was unanimously agreed upon today. While there may be some refinements made during the legislative process, the group is confident in their current proposal.
Governor Polis expressed his gratitude towards the hardworking members of the Colorado AI Policy Work Group for reaching a unanimous agreement on AI policy. He also stated his support for the recommended framework as it moves through the legislative process. The governor commended the group for their efforts in bringing this issue to light.

The approved framework builds upon previous work done by Senate Majority Leader Rodriguez and various House sponsors who have shown a deep interest in this topic. It also acknowledges the tireless efforts of organizations, companies, and individuals who have been working towards finding a solution.
Under this proposed framework developed by the AI Policy Work Group, Coloradans will be made aware when AI or ADMT is being used to make important decisions that could significantly impact their lives. They will receive an upfront notice if these systems are being used and if an adverse decision is made, they will have access to more information about it. They will also have an opportunity to correct any incorrect information and request a human review of the final decision.
Overall, this policy framework aims to protect consumers while still allowing room for innovation in Colorado. With strong support from various groups and individuals involved in this issue, it is expected to make a positive impact as it moves through the legislative process.
