Colorado: Governor Polis Announces Staff Update

DENVER ~ In a press conference today, Governor Jared Polis announced updates to his Office of Legal Counsel and Office of Boards and Commissions. These changes include the departure of Kara Veitch, the Governor's Chief Legal Counsel, and the appointment of Jennifer Ferrall as the new Director of Boards and Commissions.
Veitch, who has served as Chief Legal Counsel since 2021, will be leaving her position to take on a role with States United Democracy Center. In her new role, she will lead efforts with governor's offices across the country to support democracy. Governor Polis expressed his excitement for Veitch's new role, stating that her dedication to serving the state and her knowledge will be a great asset to the organization.
During her time in office, Veitch has been a valuable member of Governor Polis' team and has always fought for the best interests of Coloradans. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve in his administration since its beginning in 2013 under Governor Hickenlooper.

In addition to serving as Chief Legal Counsel, Veitch has also held positions under multiple administrations including Deputy Executive Director and Chief of Staff of the Department of Personnel & Administration under Governor Hickenlooper. In 2019, she was appointed as Executive Director of that department before being appointed as Chief Legal Counsel by Governor Polis in 2021.
Veitch will now serve as a Program Director for State Innovation at States United Democracy Center where she will lead an emerging policy initiative aimed at supporting statewide officials in their efforts to protect American democracy. The organization is currently seeking qualified candidates for this position.
Governor Polis also announced that Nikky Patel, Director of the Office of Boards and Commissions, will be leaving his office for a new position at Accenture as a Public Sector Senior Manager. In this role, Patel will work with state agencies on technology modernization efforts to improve government services for citizens.

Patel joined the Governor's Office in 2020 and has served as the Director of Boards and Commissions for the past four years. During her tenure, she has helped appoint and reappoint over 4,000 people to serve the State of Colorado. She will be succeeded by Jennifer Ferrall, who previously served as Deputy Director of the Office of Boards and Commissions.
Governor Polis praised Patel for her work in ensuring that boards and commissions reflect the diversity of Colorado. He also expressed his gratitude for her service and her ongoing dedication to modernizing government services in her new role at Accenture.
