Colorado: Governor Polis, Oil & Gas Leaders and Conservation Groups Reaffirm Commitment to Preventing Divisive and Expensive Ballot Measures
TelAve News/10895542
DENVER - Today, Governor Polis, conservation, and oil & gas organizations announced their renewed commitment to the agreement reached in 2024 to avoid costly and divisive ballot measures. In 2024, Governor Polis convened the oil & gas industry and conservation advocates to build a lasting agreement to prevent a costly and divisive ballot fight. This agreement is expected to raise over $80 million in new funding this fiscal year for transportation, protect Colorado's clean air, and create certainty for industry and greater reliability for consumers as Coloradans face higher gas prices. This commitment comes even as outside interests seek ballot measures that would take Colorado backwards.
"In 2024, I brought industry and environmental advocates together to reach a common-sense agreement which raised millions in new funding for transportation, protected our air, and provided certainty to industry, helping us avoid costly and divisive ballot measures. Today we are once again affirming the good work we all accomplished to move the state forward and calling on all parties seeking divisive measures to stop. Commitment to this agreement is good for our state, environment, and economy, and I thank industry and advocates for coming together again to move our state forward, not fight through the ballot box," said Governor Polis.

"We agree with the Governor and industry that now is not the time to play politics with energy in Colorado. We don't know who besides Advance Colorado is really behind this effort but we know the net effect - lock into the constitution lawsuits to rollback progress with no provisions for public health or safety. Today begins the effort to educate Colorado about the risks of this measure," said Kelly Nordini, Chief Executive Officer of Conservation Colorado.
"We remain committed to the agreement brokered by Governor Polis in 2024, which is still intact today and established political and regulatory certainty through 2027. It was good for Colorado then, and it's good for Colorado now. Given that, we oppose any energy-related ballot measure in 2026 and continue to seek time to allow all the new rules and regulations to work as intended. We believe Colorado has a stronger future when we set aside our differences and work together to improve the environment and secure regulatory and political certainty," said Dan Haley, Executive Director of Coloradans for Responsible Energy Development.
