The governor also previously released a statement outlining the state's efforts to coordinate with the U.S. Wildland Fire Service in rescuing and evacuating two injured firefighters who were hurt in the line of duty. He authorized the National Guard to support recovery efforts for the three fallen firefighters.

The Knowles Fire later merged with several others to form the Snyder Fire. As of Thursday, July 2, 2026, it has burned over 30,000 acres and is currently 49% contained. All evacuation orders were lifted on July 1st at 7 p.m.

The loss of these brave individuals has deeply affected their loved ones and fellow crew members. As Colorado mourns their passing and honors their courage and sacrifice, flags will fly at half-staff across the state as a symbol of gratitude for their service.
