Colorado: Governor Polis Orders Flags to Half-Staff In Honor Of Jesse Jackson

DENVER ~ Denver, CO - In a statement released today, Governor Polis has ordered all public buildings to lower their flags to half-staff in honor of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson. The flags will remain at half-staff from sunrise on Friday, March 6th until sunset on Saturday, March 7th.

The decision was made to coincide with Rev. Jackson's public celebration of life ceremony on March 6th and a private memorial service on March 7th. The governor's office has stated that this is a way to pay tribute to Rev. Jackson's life and legacy.

Rev. Jesse Jackson had strong ties to Colorado and its Civil Rights movement and leaders. He was deeply connected to many community leaders such as Cleo Parker Robinson, Wellington and Wilma Webb, Michael Hancock, and countless others.

Governor Polis expressed his admiration for Rev. Jackson's contributions to the Civil Rights movement, stating that he "changed this state and nation forever." He also acknowledged how Rev.
