TelAve News/10861023
DENVER ~ Denver, CO - In a move to protect the healthcare freedoms and privacy of Coloradans, Governor Jared Polis signed several bills into law today during a ceremony in his office. The bills were sponsored by various state senators and representatives and aim to align Colorado's laws with the will of its voters.
One of the key bills signed by Governor Polis was SB25-129, also known as the Legally Protected Health-Care Activity Protections. This bill, sponsored by Senators Lisa Cutter and Faith Winter, along with Representatives Junie Joseph and Karen McCormick, aims to safeguard access to reproductive care and protect privacy from federal interference.
During the signing ceremony, Governor Polis stated, "In the Free State of Colorado, we are protecting Coloradans' healthcare freedoms, while leaders in DC and across the country are focused on bringing government between doctors and patients." He also highlighted how this bill aligns with the state's recent decision to enshrine reproductive freedom into its constitution.

Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera also spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing that these laws reflect Colorado's values and protect real people in real ways. "As a woman who's faced serious illness and spent my career fighting for high-quality and affordable health care for all Coloradans," she said, "I'm proud that Colorado continues to lead with compassion, conviction, and courage."
In addition to SB25-129, Governor Polis also signed several other bipartisan bills into law administratively. These include SB25-216 which eliminates reprinting of education laws; SB25-217 which repeals the Computer Science Education Grant Program; SB25-222 which repeals proficiency tests administered by schools; SB25-231 which repeals the Inclusive Higher Education Act; SB25-232 which repeals the Recovery-Friendly Workplace Program; SB25-246 which eliminates Gray & Black Market Marijuana Grant Program; SB25-250 which repeals the Disordered Eating Prevention Program; SB25-252 which repeals the Radiation Advisory Committee; SB25-255 which transfers funds to the Hazardous Substance Response Fund; SB25-256 which allocates funds for support of the Digital Trunked Radio System; and SB25-266 which repeals statutory appropriation requirements.

However, Governor Polis also vetoed one bill, SB25-086, known as Protections for Users of Social Media. This bill, sponsored by Senators Lisa Frizell and Lindsey Daugherty, along with Representatives Andrew Boesenecker and Anthony Hartsook, aimed to hold social media platforms accountable for enforcing state laws. In his veto letter, Governor Polis stated that this bill would "incentivize platforms...to simply deplatform a user in order to comply with this proposed law."
Overall, these new laws reflect Colorado's commitment to protecting healthcare freedoms and privacy while also promoting access to reproductive care. With these measures in place, Colorado continues to lead with compassion and courage in safeguarding the rights of its citizens.
