DENVER ~ Today, Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera made a special visit to Englewood Middle School in Denver to recognize the school's achievement of being awarded the 2025 National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship. The Lt. Governor also took the opportunity to highlight some of the students' impressive sustainability projects.
During her visit, Lt. Governor Primavera was given a tour of the school's STEM lab where students from grades 6-8 showcased their "Sustainability and Upcycling Project." This initiative, led by STEM teacher Jackie Weisfield, encourages students to use their engineering skills to transform discarded mini-blinds into unique pieces of artwork. The scholarship funds received by the school will be used to purchase equipment that will further enhance hands-on learning experiences for the students.
"Colorado is a leader in innovation and Englewood Middle School is a prime example of how environmental education can be successful," said Lt. Governor Primavera. "By encouraging students to explore STEM and fostering creativity, resourcefulness, and environmental awareness, we are preparing them to become future scientific leaders and innovators."
