Colorado Springs: 8th Street bridge to shift to two lanes each direction overnight Tuesday
TelAve News/10893898
~ Colorado Springs - Starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, drivers can expect changes to traffic on 8th Street over Fountain Creek. According to city officials, the traffic will be shifted to a new configuration with two lanes open in each direction by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22.
The shift is necessary for crews to complete work on the west side of the bridge. As a result, traffic will be shifted to the east side of the bridge and the center lanes across the bridge will reopen. However, the right southbound lane on the bridge will be closed.
Motorists are advised to take note of these changes and plan their commute accordingly. They can expect two lanes of traffic in each direction over the bridge and should be prepared for a closure of the right southbound lane on the bridge. Additionally, drivers should be aware that there may be occasional right lane closures near the bridge in the coming weeks as crews complete curb, sidewalk, and aesthetic work.

In addition to these changes, there is also ongoing water main replacement work south of the bridge between Abbot Lane and Motor City Drive. This has resulted in lane closures and no left turns between 8th Street and Motor City Drive.
To accommodate for these left turn restrictions at Motor City Drive, southbound 8th Street traffic can turn left at Automotive Drive and access Motor City Drive via Motor World Drive. Similarly, Motor City Drive traffic can access southbound 8th Street via Automotive Drive.
As work progresses, there may be further changes to traffic patterns in this area. The center lane closure is expected to extend further south in the coming weeks as crews install a new water main. More details will be provided as they become available.
Despite these changes and ongoing construction work, access to local businesses remains open and clearly marked for drivers' convenience. However, motorists are reminded to slow down and use caution when driving through work zones.
For the latest updates on this project, drivers can visit ColoradoSprings.gov/8thStreet or sign up for project alerts. City officials urge drivers to stay informed and plan their routes accordingly to avoid any potential delays.
