Colorado Springs: Ladders Trail now open in North Cheyenne Cañon Park

TelAve News/10831924
This 2.5 ~ Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) has announced the opening of a new trail in North Cheyenne Cañon Park. The Ladders Trail, a 2.5-mile extension, offers a multi-use and multi-directional connection between the Middle Columbine Trail, Captain Jacks Trail, Gold Camp Road, and Stratton Open Space. This new trail provides an alternative to using the gravel road and offers trail users a singletrack experience.

One of the main features of this project is the custom-built timber bridge that allows for a safe interchange between Captain Morgans Bike Trail and the Ladders Trail. This bridge was made possible by funding from local mountain biking group COSMBA (Colorado Springs Mountain Bike Association), the Pikes Peak Recreation Alliance (PPORA), and the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation's Stewardship Fund. The Stewardship Fund includes a portion of registration fees from small fundraising events and the Pikes Peak APEX.

The Ladders Trail project was made possible by funding from various sources including the Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax (LART), Trails, Open and Parks (TOPS) sales tax program, and Friends of Cheyenne Cañon. These funds were used to create a safe and enjoyable trail for all users.

As part of this project, two other trails have been officially adopted into the PRCS trail system: the multi-use Penrose Trail and downhill bike-only Captain Morgans Trail. These trails were previously social trails but will now be maintained by the City of Colorado Springs with help from volunteers from local bike organizations.

The opening of the Ladders Trail is an exciting addition to North Cheyenne Cañon Park, providing more opportunities for outdoor recreation in Colorado Springs. With its unique features and connections to other trails in the area, it is sure to become a popular destination for hikers, bikers, and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
