Colorado Springs: Work resumes Monday on 8th Street Bridge over Fountain Creek
TelAve News/10903397
~ Colorado Springs - The 8th Street bridge over Fountain Creek will undergo major construction starting Monday, Aug. 10, as the right southbound lane will be closed for approximately eight weeks. According to the project team, this closure is necessary for crews to position materials and equipment before beginning work on the west side of the bridge.
The delay in construction was caused by unexpected damage discovered on the west side of the bridge earlier this spring. This required additional engineering and design work before construction could resume. However, the project team assures that they are now ready to move forward with the repairs.
Motorists traveling south of the bridge should also expect intermittent lane closures and traffic shifts between Costilla Street and Motor City Drive. This is due to ongoing work to install and connect a new 24-inch water main beneath the roadway. During this phase of construction, one lane will remain open in each direction. Trucks accessing Lower Gold Camp Road are advised to use 21st Street as an alternate route to avoid turning restrictions through the work zone.

Despite these closures and traffic shifts, access to local businesses will remain open and clearly marked for drivers. However, motorists are advised to plan for extra travel time, slow down, and use caution while driving through the work zone.
For up-to-date information on the project and any construction updates, residents can visit ColoradoSprings.gov/8thStreet and sign up for email or text alerts. The city urges everyone to stay informed about this important infrastructure project that will improve safety and accessibility for all drivers in Colorado Springs.
