Fortunately, all occupants of the home had evacuated before CFD arrived and there were no reported injuries. However, one cat did not survive the fire.

A total of five fire companies, two battalion chiefs, one safety captain, and one fire marshal with 19 personnel responded to the scene. After investigation, the Columbia Fire Marshals Battalion determined that the cause of the fire was accidental due to combustible materials being left too close to a heat source.

The CFD reminds residents to always be cautious when handling heat sources and to keep combustible materials at a safe distance. They also commend their quick response time and efficient handling of the situation which prevented further damage or injuries.
