Columbia: Firefighters contain laboratory fire on Discovery Parkway Drive

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - On Friday, Aug. 7 at 4:58 p.m., a laboratory facility in the 4000 block of Discovery Parkway Drive reported a building fire. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene.

According to Boone County Joint Communications, multiple 911 calls were received from the facility confirming an active fire inside one of the building's laboratories. The first fire company arrived within four minutes of dispatch and found employees evacuating the building. Smoke was visible inside and the building's fire-safety systems had been activated.

Upon arrival, firefighters assisted with evacuations and deployed a 200-foot hose line to reach the fire. As more companies arrived, crews worked together to control the fire, search for any occupants inside the building, shut off utilities, and ventilate the structure. The incident was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported and firefighters were able to contain the damage to a single room within the laboratory where an electrical device had caught fire unintentionally. The cause of the fire has been determined as accidental in nature.
