(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ The City of Columbia is currently seeking public input on the potential railbanking of the COLT Railroad, which runs from Rogers Street to East Brown Station Road. The city has scheduled two open house-style meetings at City Hall, located at 701 E. Broadway in Conference Rooms 1A-1B. These meetings will provide an opportunity for members of the public to learn more about the proposal and share their feedback.

The first meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 12 from noon to 1 p.m., with a second meeting following from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on the same day. The COLT Railway has been owned and operated by the City of Columbia since 1987, but businesses along the 2.5-mile section of track have not utilized rail service in years.

Railbanking is a process established by the federal government in 1983 to preserve out-of-service rail corridors and infrastructure for potential future reactivation. Those unable to attend either meeting can still provide their feedback online at BeHeard.CoMo.gov.
