Columbia Regional Airport continues record growth with busiest June in airport history

TelAve News/10901711
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Regional Airport (COU) has reached a new milestone in its growth as it welcomed a record-breaking number of departing passengers in June 2026. According to the latest statistics, 19,584 passengers departed from COU, more than double the number recorded in the same month last year.

This significant increase in passenger traffic is a testament to the airport's expanding flight options and convenient access to major airline hubs. In fact, aviation planning, design, and development firm Mead & Hunt recently identified COU as the fastest-growing airport in the United States among airports with at least 10,000 monthly seats. They projected a staggering 107% increase in available seats over the next six months.

Airport Manager Michael Parks expressed his excitement about this achievement, stating that more travelers are choosing COU because it is becoming easier than ever to fly close to home. He attributed this growth to expanded service, new destinations, and continued investment in the airport.

To support the increasing demand for air travel, the City of Columbia opened a new 600-space south parking lot in June. Additionally, they launched daily shuttle service between the lot and terminal to provide convenient access for travelers while expanding parking capacity.

COU has been experiencing significant momentum in recent years. In 2025 alone, they recorded a record-breaking 242,167 passengers, representing a 17% increase from the previous year. The return of United Airlines with daily nonstop service to Chicago O'Hare and Denver has also contributed to this growth. Furthermore, American Airlines now offers daily nonstop service to Charlotte, providing one-stop access to over 180 destinations.

In addition to these developments, Allegiant has also introduced new nonstop services from COU to Orlando/Sanford and Destin-Fort Walton Beach. And starting November 19th of this year, they will also offer nonstop service to St. Pete-Clearwater.

The airport has also seen an increase in airline capacity, with a 26% increase in American Airlines seats during peak travel seasons and a 62% increase in seats to Chicago O'Hare.
