Columbia: Road closure scheduled for Sexton Road beginning July 6
TelAve News/10900202
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The Stormwater Utility's contractor, TB Dozing & Excavation LLC, has announced plans to begin a road closure on West Sexton Road at the intersections of Jefferson Street and McBaine Avenue starting Monday, July 6. This closure is necessary for the construction of the Sexton-McBaine Stormwater Improvement Project, a capital improvement project aimed at improving public storm drainage infrastructure in the area.
According to the contractor, the closure will first be implemented on Jefferson Street and once completed, will transition to the McBaine Avenue closure. It is important to note that these two closures will not be in effect at the same time. Road closure signs will be posted in the area and drivers are advised to plan for an alternative route.
The closure is expected to last for a total of 90 days, weather permitting. The Sexton Road and McBaine Avenue Stormwater Improvement Project includes replacing and improving approximately 614 feet of stormwater pipe and eight stormwater structures. The existing stormwater system in this area has been deemed undersized and in poor condition, leading to frequent roadway flooding. As part of this project, portions of the existing system along Sexton Road will be abandoned and new stormwater pipes will be rerouted towards the south into an existing box culvert.

In addition to road closures, there will also be impacts on public transportation. The Go COMO Gold Route will detour around the Sexton Road closure starting July 6. This detour is expected to remain in effect for approximately 90 days while construction is underway.
Outbound Gold Route buses traveling east on West Sexton Road will turn south onto Banks Avenue before heading west onto West Worley Street and returning to their regular route. The West Sexton Road and Banks Avenue bus stop will remain in service but will be temporarily relocated to the west side of the intersection.
Riders who normally use bus stops at West Sexton Road and Oak Street or West Worley Street and Oak Street (westbound) are advised to instead board the bus at either the temporarily relocated West Sexton Road and Banks Avenue stop or the West Worley Street and Banks Avenue stop.
For more information about the Gold Route detour, including route maps, commuters can follow Go COMO Transit on social media, check the ETA Transit app, or watch for informational signs posted at affected bus stops later this week. The Stormwater Utility and TB Dozing & Excavation LLC are committed to completing this project efficiently and minimizing disruptions to the community.
