Columbia: SAVE-A-LIFE: Naloxone education and distribution event will be hosted at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ COLUMBIA, MO - On Tuesday, August 12th, Progressive Missionary Baptist Church will be hosting a SAVE-A-LIFE event in partnership with the Boone County Overdose Response Coalition (BCORC) and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS). The event will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the church's location on 702 Banks Ave.

The purpose of this event is to educate and distribute Naloxone, also known as Narcan®, a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. PHHS staff will be present to provide information and brief training on how to recognize the signs of an overdose and how to use and access naloxone. This training will be available both formally through a presentation, as well as informally for those who are unable to attend the formal session.

SAVE-A-LIFE is a monthly series of free events that aim to educate community members on how they can help prevent opioid overdose deaths through the use of naloxone nasal spray. No registration is required for this event and all attendees will have access to a personal supply of naloxone.

Funding for this event comes from contract DH240054280 between PHHS and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Thanks to the ongoing partnership between PHHS and the Missouri Institute for Mental Health (MIMH), participants will have access to Narcan at no cost.
