Columbia: Top floors of Fifth and Walnut and Short Street Parking Garages closed to parking, Nov. 24-March 23
TelAve News/10881654
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - As winter approaches, the Parking Utility in Columbia has announced the closure of the top floors of two parking garages. Starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 24th, the Fifth and Walnut Parking Garage located at 500 E. Walnut St. and the Short Street Parking Garage at 1110 E. Walnut St. will be closed to all vehicle traffic and parking.
This annual closure is part of the city's winter operations plan to effectively manage snow events. By keeping the top levels clear, Parking Utility staff will be able to efficiently handle any snowfall that may occur. Access to these floors will be blocked off with chains and cones during this time.

However, there is no need for concern as the lower levels of both garages will still have ample space for both hourly and permit parkers. The top floors are expected to reopen on Monday, March 23rd, 2026, weather permitting.
The Parking Utility would like to thank everyone for their cooperation during this time and reminds drivers to plan accordingly for alternative parking options during the closure period.
