Columbia: West Route K reopens to east-to-west traffic; West Old Plank Road closure starts Jan. 5
TelAve News/10884783
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - On December 31st, Sam Gaines Construction, the contractor for the City of Columbia Public Works department, announced the completion of major roadway work for phase three of construction on the Route K and Old Plank Road roundabout. This marks a significant milestone in the project as West Route K has now reopened to eastbound and westbound traffic through the construction site.
Phase three of the project focused on construction on the southeast portion of the roundabout and associated pavement work needed to reconnect Route K. While most of this phase has been completed, there are still some remaining items that will be finished in the coming days. These include limited sidewalk work and a remaining drive approach. As these final tasks are completed, drivers may encounter occasional minor lane restrictions.
Moving forward, phase four is set to begin on Monday, January 5th. This final phase will involve construction at the northern exit of the roundabout to West Old Plank Road. This includes road and driveway connections as well as associated stormwater improvements. As a result, during this phase, the roundabout will be closed at its north exit to West Old Plank Road.

To accommodate for this closure, drivers traveling south on Old Plank Road and intending to head west on West Route K can detour north using Forum Boulevard, West Southampton Drive, and South Sinclair Road. Alternatively, drivers may detour east from Old Plank Road towards South Providence Road and Route K.
Phase four is expected to continue through Monday, February 2nd, weather permitting. It is important for drivers to remember that the roundabout remains an active work zone during this time. Caution should be exercised in the area and all posted signage should be followed. Additionally, drivers should watch out for construction crews and equipment as work continues.
The City of Columbia Public Works department will provide further updates as the project progresses. In the meantime, they urge all drivers to stay informed and plan their routes accordingly to avoid any potential delays.
