Comedian Evan Wecksell Turns Real Spam Messages Into Emo Concept Album

After publishing The Spam Whisperer book series, comedian and podcaster Evan Wecksell transforms real spam and scammer conversations into a humorous emo-inspired music project.
LOS ANGELES - TelAve -- Comedian, Author, and Singer-Songwriter Evan Wecksell Releases "Spam Whispering," an Emo-Infused Album Inspired by Real Spam Conversations
LOS ANGELES, CA — Comedian, author, podcaster, and singer-songwriter Evan Wecksell has released Spam Whispering, a new album inspired by actual spam messages, scammer interactions, and online conversations that first led to his Amazon book series, The Spam Whisperer and The Spam Whisperer 2: Never Stop Whispering.
For years, Wecksell responded to unsolicited messages from spammers, scammers, and internet strangers, turning bizarre exchanges into comedy. Many of these exchanges took place through the Wheel of Fortune app and text messaging, eventually forming the basis for his books. Now they have inspired a collection of emo, pop-punk, and alternative rock songs that explore modern relationships, digital communication, rejection, hope, confusion, and connection in an increasingly online world.

"The source material is absurd, but I approached the project like a musician," explains Wecksell. "I wanted the album to tell a story with a beginning, middle and end."
Known for his appearances on Conan, The Goldbergs, and VH1's I Love the 80s, Wecksell brings his unique blend of humor and storytelling to an album that goes beyond the recent trend of turning internet content into songs, elevating these interactions into angsty, conflicted, and surprisingly emotional music while still retaining its comedic charm.
Track Listing
1. Where I'm From
2. I Do Not Marry
3. Just Imagine
4. Big Red Flag
5. A Few Requests
6. Dad?
7. Google Chat
8. where to go and what to do
9. I'm Not Ready
10. Spamhemian Rhapsody
This concept album takes messages originally intended to deceive or manipulate and reimagines them as songs about loneliness, identity, relationships, and human connection.

But that's not the most surprising part.
"The songs have actually been my go-to music for weeks," said Wecksell. "And they are so catchy, they are getting stuck in my kids' heads. My 4-year-old always requests 'Google Chat.'"
Asked whether Spam Whispering was a one-time project, Wecksell reveals, "All of this material came from only a portion of the first Spam Whisperer book. I believe Spam Whisperer 2 is the stronger book, so expect more gems down the road."
Spam Whispering is now available on all major streaming platforms. The Spam Whisperer book series is available on Amazon.
