Congressional Candidate and Native Iranian, Ace Parsi, Addresses Possible Strikes Against Iran

Democratic Cantidate Looking to Unseat Incumbent Republican Riley Moore
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - TelAve -- Congressional candidate Ace Parsi (WV-02) released the following statement today in response to reports of the US preparing military action against Iran. Parsi emphasized that opposing escalation of the war does not equate to backing the Iranian government, but it does mean upholding democratic principles and protecting innocent lives.
"I want to make it clear that I have no interest in supporting the Iranian government. But the United States is not an authoritarian regime, and we cannot act as if we're a supreme leader that can launch strikes with impunity," Parsi said. "There are innocent civilians in that country. They are not pawns on the chessboard. Their lives matter."
Parsi insisted that the choices about war should follow the constitutional process and democratic accountability, not unilateral action, "Decisions about war should follow, not unilateral," he stressed. "Military force carries profound consequences for our soldiers, for the stability of the region, and for the peoples and families who have nothing to do with their governments' decisions. That is precisely why our Constitution demands deliberation, transparency and congressional consent before going to war. Members of Congress should not allow Trump to trample on the Constitution by ordering military action without Congressional approval. Yielding to the will of a "supreme leader" is what Iran does. It's not what we do."

Parsi called upon American leaders to work on diplomacy, alliances with allies and de-escalation before moving on to military action. "Power is not quantified by the speed at which we strike. It's measured by how responsibly we lead. America has to ensure that security is guaranteed, while also defending democracy's values, accountability, restraint, and respect for human life."
Parsi called on Congress to exercise its constitutional power over the powers of war and make sure that any use of force is properly discussed and lawfully authorized. "We cannot sacrifice our democratic values to defend them," Parsi added. "Leadership means safeguarding American security without sacrificing our humanity."
ABOUT:
Ace Parsi is a community-centered leader running to represent West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Born into an authoritarian regime in Iran, Ace and his family fled in search of freedom and opportunity, a journey that forged his deep belief in democratic ideals and the promise of America. After arriving in the United States with no English, his family relied on the support of public schools, community support, and essential programs such as SNAP and Pell Grants, experiences that shaped his commitment to policies that expand opportunity and lift up working families.
