Deputy Mayor Joe Bushnell Presents Tacoma Minimum Wage Community and Stakeholder Engagement Report to Economic Development Committee

~ During the Tacoma City Council Economic Development Committee meeting today, Deputy Mayor Joe Bushnell unveiled the Tacoma Minimum Wage Community and Stakeholder Engagement Report. This report was a result of ongoing conversations among Tacoma residents about the impact of fair wages on workers, families, employers, and the local economy.
Deputy Mayor Bushnell recognized the importance of hearing directly from those who would be most affected by any potential changes to minimum wage policies. As a result, he engaged with a diverse group of stakeholders representing various sectors in Tacoma. This included small and local businesses, nonprofit organizations, childcare providers, healthcare organizations, and the Tacoma Anchor Network. He also met with labor representatives and students to gain insight into worker perspectives and experiences.

In a statement, Deputy Mayor Bushnell emphasized the significance of this issue for the community and stressed the need for input from a wide range of stakeholders. He expressed his gratitude to all those who participated in the engagement process and shared their experiences, expertise, and ideas. While there were differing opinions among participants, there was a common goal of investing in Tacoma's future and contributing thoughtfully to an important community discussion.
The report was presented to the Economic Development Committee during today's meeting. Deputy Mayor Bushnell also announced that there will be a policy discussion on potentially raising Tacoma's minimum wage to $20 per hour at the Council's July 14th meeting in 2026.
