Filmmaker Chip Perro Addresses Waning Enthusiasm for Superhero Movies In His Upcoming Film

"Teriyaki Chicken Rescue" is a Sci-Fi, Martial Arts Feature Film that Introduces New Action Stars to Thrill Gen-Z and Alpha Viewers

BOSTON - TelAve -- Steven Spielberg famously stated that "there will be a time when the superhero movie goes the way of the Western."  That was back in 2015.  Captain America:  Civil War would be released the following year, Spider-Man: Homecoming, the year after that, and then, the Avengers...  That famous snap through space and time rewrote fate, and without even noticing it, everything changed in the real world, too.  Like John Wayne stepping off the trolly at the end of The Shootist, the fate of the superhero film is now sealed, and Spielberg was right.  It's over.

We could talk box office dollars, general audience approval, or future films, but with only a few notable exceptions, it's obvious that enthusiasm for the superhero genre is waning.  And with such an obvious hole in big-action cinematic entertainment, what replaces it?  Chip Perro has the answer.

Superheroes appeal to the fantastical.  They're wish fulfillment at its best.  And sometimes, that's what the people want.  But often, even within the genres of action and sci-fi, there are times when a grounded hero becomes more captivating.  Martial arts films are on the comeback.  Without any cosmic powers, a martial artist finds strength though skill.  It's an internal battle, and the hero's journey is largely fought from within.  It's about challenging oneself and accepting the fight when no one else can.  Always with honor, and always with a quiet and dignified grace.

This kind of power is attainable in the real world, which makes martial arts heroes and stories more relatable.  But unlike the martial arts films of the 70's and 80's, Perro's vision combines the practicality of martial arts with the fantastical of science fiction.  It also features seven new heroes that fit the times of today.

Teriyaki Chicken Rescue is a film made for modern audiences.  The adventure follows a cast of actors with screen-ready martial arts skills.  When a cosmic threat from across the galaxy threatens the fate of the entire planet, the heroes stand ready to accept the fight.  This is a first in a series of films Perro plans to produce.  It's also the first in a new kind of action-adventure.  One where the cosmic grandeur of the fantastic shines bright, but instead of spandex-clad superheroes charging forwards, they'll just be heroes, fighting the fight with finely tuned martial-skill, and, of course, the honor of a warrior.
