~ The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will stop in Idaho Falls on Friday, Nov. 6, as it travels from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests to Washington, D.C., the City of Idaho Falls said.

The free event, "From the Forest to the Falls," is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Idaho Falls Public Library parking lot and along Capital Avenue. The city, Idaho Falls Power and the library are hosting the event with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, including the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, and the Society of American Foresters, the nonprofit partner for the tree tour.

Visitors will be able to see the 76-foot Engelmann spruce and take part in live music, winter crafts and storytelling. The event will also include activities to make ornaments for the tree's trip to Washington, D.C., and educational booths about Idaho's national forests and the people who care for them. Idaho Falls Power will provide winter treats, according to the city.

The tree was selected from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and is scheduled to travel through communities in Idaho and elsewhere before reaching the U.S. Capitol. The Architect of the Capitol's team will decorate it with thousands of handcrafted ornaments made by Idaho residents before the tree-lighting ceremony in early December, the city said.

The annual tradition dates back more than five decades, with a different national forest providing a tree for the Capitol's West Lawn each year, according to the city.
