TelAve News/10904481
ATLANTA ~ Atlanta - Governor Brian P. Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp are embarking on an international economic development mission this week to Chile and Peru. The purpose of the trip is to strengthen economic ties between Georgia and these two countries, as well as to promote job creation and growth in export markets for Georgia-made products.
During their visit, the Governor and First Lady will meet with high-ranking government officials and hold direct talks with companies that have operations in Georgia. This includes Arauco, a leading forestry and wood products company, which has maintained its North American headquarters in DeKalb County since 2016. They will also meet with CMPC USA, a subsidiary of CMPC, a major forestry and paper products company that has been based in DeKalb County for over 20 years.
In addition to these meetings, the Governor and First Lady will be joined by representatives from the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) to conduct trade-focused meetings with prospective partners. This will provide opportunities for Georgia exporters to connect with businesses in Chile and Peru.

According to GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson, both Chile and Peru offer opportunities in top industries such as agribusiness, technology, and manufacturing - areas that are well represented by small businesses based in Georgia. In fact, last year alone, companies of all sizes moved nearly $1 billion worth of products through Georgia to these two countries.
Chile is an important trading partner for Georgia, maintaining an Honorary Consulate in Atlanta since 2005. In 2020 alone, Georgia exported $761 million worth of goods to Chile. Similarly, Peru has maintained a consular presence in Georgia since 1995 and has been represented by the state since 2018. In 2020, Georgia exported $203 million worth of goods to Peru.
The Governor's mission also includes meetings with Delta Air Lines and LATAM Airlines Group. These two companies have recently joined forces to enhance connectivity between the United States/Canada, South America, and the rest of the world. This partnership will support access to over 300 destinations, providing more opportunities for economic growth and development.
