Georgia: Gov. Kemp Leads Economic Development Mission to Scotland and Ireland

ATLANTA ~ Governor Brian P. Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp are currently on an international mission to Scotland and Ireland, with the aim of strengthening economic relationships between these countries and the state of Georgia. The Governor and his delegation, including representatives from the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), will be meeting with various companies during their trip, including Hyundai Motor Group and Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Prime Minister of Ireland.
In a statement, Governor Kemp expressed his excitement for the trip, stating that thousands of new jobs have been created in Georgia in recent years thanks to partnerships with Hyundai and Irish companies. He looks forward to discussing current operations and potential opportunities for growth with these companies in order to bring more investment and job opportunities to the hardworking people of Georgia.
The main focus of the trip will be a meeting with Hyundai Motor Group leadership at the Genesis Scottish Open. This company has been responsible for the largest economic development project in Georgia's history, spanning over two decades and creating over 12,000 jobs with thousands more committed for the future. Their investment in the state has also amounted to billions of dollars.

Commissioner Pat Wilson from GDEcD emphasized the importance of building strong relationships through face-to-face meetings. He stated that while technology allows for global connections, trust is built through personal interactions. Every visit, conversation, and partnership strengthens these relationships which ultimately drive innovation, investment, and opportunity for Georgia.
Aside from meeting with Hyundai Motor Group, Governor Kemp and his delegation will also be visiting other companies that are already employing Georgians across various industries. These include CRH - a leading building materials company with two North American corporate headquarters in Atlanta - as well as Kerry Group, Kingspan Group, Mallaghan, and Smurfit Westrock.
The Governor will also be touring the Georgia Southern Wexford Campus along with members of his delegation from World Trade Center Savannah and Savannah Economic Development Authority. This visit will include events supporting subnational and educational partnerships between Ireland and Georgia.

Kingspan Group, a leading manufacturer of building materials, has a regional sales office for its North American insulation business in metro Atlanta. Mallaghan, an airport ground support equipment manufacturer, has a facility in Newnan that produces various equipment for the aviation industry. And finally, Smurfit Westrock - one of the world's largest paper and packaging companies - has its joint North and South American headquarters located in Sandy Springs.
