Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - Governor Brad Little welcomed U.S. Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer to Idaho today to recognize the state's achievements in workforce development, specifically highlighting the success of Idaho LAUNCH.

Governor Little expressed his gratitude for Secretary Chavez-DeRemer's visit, stating that her recognition of Idaho LAUNCH is a defining moment for the state. He emphasized that the program is dedicated to promoting and supporting American workers, and he was honored to have the opportunity to showcase it to a leader in President Trump's administration.

Secretary Chavez-DeRemer echoed Governor Little's sentiments, stating that preparing the next generation of American workers is her top priority. She praised Idaho LAUNCH as a powerful example of what can be achieved when state leaders, employers, and educators come together to invest in the workforce. She also commended Governor Little for his bold leadership in keeping Idaho's workforce competitive.

As part of her visit, Secretary Chavez-DeRemer toured Micron and participated in a roundtable discussion with Idaho employers and education leaders. The Governor and Secretary then recognized graduating Micron journey workers and new participants in the company's registered apprenticeship program.

The two also visited Perpetua Resources in Cascade, where they witnessed the company's endowed scholarships being presented to students at the College of Western Idaho. These scholarships are meant to complement the portion of a student's program costs that are not covered by LAUNCH. They also joined local leaders, employers, and state government representatives for a discussion on strengthening Idaho's mining workforce.

Governor Little took this opportunity to highlight the remarkable success of LAUNCH in its first year at a proclamation signing ceremony declaring March 2025 as "LAUNCHing Idaho's Workforce Month." He emphasized that not only has LAUNCH increased enrollment across all institutions by 9%, but it has also seen significant increases in community college enrollment (18%), career technical students (15%), economically disadvantaged students (15%), and Hispanic students (16%). Most notably, there has been a 19% increase in students with less than a 2.7 GPA going on to pursue rewarding and in-demand professions.

The Idaho Legislature has approved Governor Little's KEEPING PROMISES plan, which includes $75 million in continued funding for Idaho LAUNCH and an additional $10 million to create more seats at community and technical colleges to address waitlists and shortages in critical working-class professions across the state. Private sector partners have also joined in by investing their own funds to support the state's efforts in getting more students into programs with waitlists.

President Donald Trump has also recognized the success of LAUNCH, issuing a proclamation earlier this year that reaffirms his belief in investing in training and retraining opportunities for a stronger workforce and economy. Governor Little sees this as an opportunity to showcase Idaho's success with LAUNCH as a blueprint for other states' workforce training efforts.

With President Trump back in the White House and Secretary Chavez-DeRemer's visit today, Governor Little believes that Idaho's success with LAUNCH can serve as an inspiration for the rest of the country. As he stated, "LAUNCH is exactly the type of success story we would like to see play out across the country."
