TelAve News/10888880
~ In response to the ongoing 8 Ball Fire in the Panhandle area of Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG). The grant will provide necessary resources to aid in managing and containing the fire, which has already burned an estimated 13,000 acres and remains 55 percent contained.

Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude towards the Trump Administration and FEMA for swiftly approving the funding, stating that it will further equip the brave wildfire response teams in their efforts to protect their fellow Texans. He also commended the heroic emergency personnel who have been working tirelessly to combat the fire.

The 8 Ball Fire, which started in Armstrong County and entered Donley County, has threatened homes and infrastructure in the Panhandle area. It has already forced approximately 400 homes to be evacuated and has posed a threat to over 1,100 homes. While some residents have been able to return home, state and local resources remain actively engaged in suppression, containment, and public safety efforts.

The approval of the FMAG makes Texas eligible for 75 percent reimbursement from the federal government for costs associated with fighting the wildfire. These grants are available to states and local jurisdictions for mitigation, management, and control of fires that pose a major disaster threat.

In light of this ongoing emergency situation, Governor Abbott has increased the readiness level of the Texas State Emergency Operations Center to Level II (Escalated Response). Additional state wildfire response resources have also been activated by the Texas Division of Emergency Management at his direction to support local efforts across the state.

Texans can access wildfire resources such as safety tips, current fire maps, and damage reporting information through TDEM's Disaster Portal at disaster.texas.gov. Governor Abbott continues to take action in order to protect Texans from wildfires by activating additional state resources ahead of critical fire danger conditions.

As firefighters continue their efforts to contain the 8 Ball Fire, the state of Texas remains committed to providing all necessary resources and support to those affected by this disaster. The FMAG approval serves as a testament to the state's dedication in mitigating and managing wildfires that pose a threat to its citizens.
