Governor Abbott Appoints Davis, Deal To Texas Council For Developmental Disabilities

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Calvin Davis and Alicia Deal, Ph.D. to the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities. Davis and Deal will serve on the council for terms set to expire on February 1, 2027 and February 1, 2029 respectively.

The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities is responsible for recommending changes in disability policies and programs, supporting a network of committees focused on people with disabilities, issuing awards to promote greater awareness, and ensuring compliance with disability-related laws.

Davis, a resident of Cedar Hill, brings a wealth of experience to the council as a volunteer and writer. He graduated from Texas Partners in Policymaking in 2019 and regularly volunteers at Jewish Family Services in Addison.

Deal, who hails from Grapeland, is a passionate disability activist who volunteers with the US Gender and Disability Justice Alliance and the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities. She is also the co-founder of Neurodivergents of Texas, a self-advocacy group for individuals on the autism spectrum. Deal holds an impressive educational background with degrees from Sam Houston State University and Texas Woman's University.

With their diverse backgrounds and dedication to advocating for individuals with disabilities, Davis and Deal are sure to make valuable contributions to the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities. Their terms will expire in 2027 and 2029 respectively.
