Governor Abbott Appoints Five To Rehabilitation Council Of Texas

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of three new members and the reappointment of two existing members to the Rehabilitation Council of Texas. The council, which works closely with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), advocates for individuals with disabilities in the vocational rehabilitation process.

Shannon Rosson, a resident of Bedford, has been appointed to the council for a term set to expire on October 29, 2027. Rosson currently serves as the PACT Project director for Partners Resource Network and is a member of several Community Resource Coordination Groups in Dallas, Ellis, Kaufman, and Tarrant counties. She also has previous experience as a member of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District Council of Parent Teacher Associations and as a coach for the Special Olympics of Texas. Rosson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from The University of Texas at Austin.

Joining Rosson on the council is Erica Kress from Aubrey. Kress has been appointed as the second vice president for the National Federation of the Blind of Texas Dallas Chapter and is an advocate for organizations such as Living Beyond Limits and Safety Positive Foundation. She also volunteers for Texas Blind Soccer. Kress earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts from UT Arlington.

Christopher Baird, a resident of San Angelo, has been reappointed to serve on the council. Baird currently works as a vocational rehabilitation supervisor for TWC and has previous experience as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for both TWC and the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services. He also served as a community supervision officer for the Concho Valley Community Supervision and Corrections Department. Baird holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Texas Tech University (TTU) and a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from TTU Health Sciences Center.

Glenda Born, who resides in Austin, has also been reappointed to serve on the council. Born brings over 40 years of experience to the council, having previously worked as an assistive technology specialist for TWC, a rehabilitation teacher and team coordinator for the Texas Commission for the Blind, and a work adjustment specialist for the Travis Association for the Blind. She holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and is a licensed professional counselor.

Lastly, Michele Norris from La Porte has been reappointed to serve on the council. Norris currently works as a regional blind services specialist for TWC and has previous experience as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Saint Vincent College and a Master's degree in Clinical Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from TTU.

The appointments made by Governor Abbott will see these individuals serve on the Rehabilitation Council of Texas until October 2027, working alongside TWC to advocate for individuals with disabilities in their journey towards vocational rehabilitation.
