Governor Abbott Appoints Three To Texas State Technical College System Board Of Regents

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of Frank Denton and the reappointment of Kathy A. Powell Stewart, D.N.P. and Ron Widup to the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) System Board of Regents. These appointments are set to expire on August 31, 2031.

Frank Denton, a resident of Conroe, brings a wealth of experience to the board. He is currently the president and owner of Denton Investment Corporation and Lube Time, Inc. Denton has previously served as chair of the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and as chairman of the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation. He has also been a member of the Texas Medical Board.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Denton is also actively involved in his community. He is a former board member of the Texas Association of Business and has served as chair of its small business committee. Denton is also a teacher at First Presbyterian Church and has been a facilitator with Bridges to Life Prison Ministry.

Denton holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University.

Kathy A. Powell Stewart, D.N.P., hailing from San Angelo, brings over 46 years of experience as a registered nurse to her role on the board. She retired after serving as an administrative director at Shannon Medical Center for many years.

Stewart is an active member in various professional organizations such as the Emergency Nurses Association, Society of Trauma Nurses, Association of Air Medical Services, and the Texas Association of Air Medical Services. She was also part of the 2018 Class of Leadership San Angelo and previously served on the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors.

Stewart holds a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Texas Christian University, a Master's degree in Nursing Administration from Texas Woman's University, and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of South Alabama.

Ron Widup, who resides in Arlington, is the chief technical marketing officer for Vector Power. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board, having previously served as a two-term president of the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA). Widup currently serves on the NETA Board of Directors and the NETA Standards Review Council.

Widup has also been involved in various committees for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and is currently the chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) P902 committee. He is also a past member of the TSTC Regent's Circle and an advisory board member for TSTC-Waco's Electrical Power & Controls Program.

Widup received his Associate degree in Applied Science in Electrical Power Distribution from TSTC-Waco.

Governor Abbott's appointments of Denton, Stewart, and Widup to the TSTC System Board of Regents will bring a diverse range of expertise and experience to help guide and support the college system. Their terms will expire on August 31, 2031.
