Governor Abbott Celebrates Opening Of 460 MW Power Plant In Central Texas
TelAve News/10895302
~ Governor Greg Abbott celebrated a major milestone for the state of Texas today as he attended the opening of the Constellation Pin Oak peaking power plant. This project, backed by the Texas Energy Fund, is the first of its kind to come online and is expected to provide more reliable and affordable power to the state's grid.
As the largest electrical power generator in America, Governor Abbott expressed his pride in expanding on this leadership by adding 460 megawatts of electricity to the grid. He emphasized that this project will ensure that there is extra power available during times of peak demand, ultimately benefiting thousands of homes and businesses in Texas.
The Governor also took a moment to thank Constellation Energy for their investment in the state and for powering its future. This sentiment was echoed by President and CEO of Calpine and Senior Executive Vice President of Constellation Power Operations, Andrew Novotny. He stated that when they joined Governor Abbott in December 2023 to announce this project, they made a commitment to bring new and reliable power to the Texas grid. Today, they have delivered on that promise.

During his remarks, Governor Abbott highlighted the significance of this project as it is the first Texas Energy Fund-backed project to come online. The Pin Oak power plant will provide 460 megawatts of dispatchable power during peak demand periods, ensuring that homes and businesses have access to reliable electricity when they need it most.
The Governor also acknowledged the efforts made by the State of Texas in reinforcing its grid over the past five years. With over 61,000 megawatts of new power added during this time, Texas continues to prioritize meeting its growing energy needs.
The Constellation Pin Oak peaking power plant is designed specifically to quickly supply electricity during times when demand is at its highest. This will not only strengthen grid reliability but also provide much-needed support for homes and businesses across Texas.
Governor Abbott was joined at the opening ceremony by Representative Angelia Orr, City of Fairfield Mayor Bobby Nichols, Public Utility Commission of Texas Chairman Thomas Gleeson, Calpine President and CEO and Constellation Senior Executive Vice President Andrew Novotny, and Constellation Senior Executive Vice President & Chief External Affairs and Growth Officer David Dardis.
As the event concluded, additional photos were made available to the press. This marks a significant step forward for Texas in its efforts to provide reliable and affordable power to its residents. With the Constellation Pin Oak peaking power plant now online, the state is well-equipped to meet its energy needs for years to come.
