TelAve News/10902776
DENVER ~ Today marks a significant day in Colorado's history as Governor Polis and the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission come together to commemorate Colorado Day. This day marks 150 years since Colorado became the 38th state on August 1, 1876. Across all 64 counties, Coloradans are gathering to reflect on the state's past, honor those who have shaped it, and celebrate this once-in-a-generation milestone through various local events, educational programs, outdoor experiences, and community gatherings.
The sesquicentennial of Colorado coincides with America's 250th anniversary, providing a unique opportunity to recognize our shared past while looking towards the future. Throughout the day, museums, libraries, parks, schools, main streets, historic sites, mountain summits, and gathering places across the state are joining in on the commemoration of Colorado Day in ways that reflect their individual communities.
Governor Polis kicked off the celebrations at History Colorado's Colorado Day Community Fest. This event is just one of nearly 100 taking place across the state as part of the America 250 - Colorado 150 commemoration. In his address at the event, Governor Polis expressed his pleasure in joining in on the celebration and ringing in this momentous occasion. He also thanked History Colorado for hosting such a fantastic event and shared his pride in calling this state home.

Timothy Wolfe, Co-Chair of America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission also shared his thoughts on this special day. He acknowledged that it represents years of planning and partnership by communities across Colorado. While it is an important milestone for the state, it is also an opportunity to reflect on our shared history and recognize those whose stories have shaped it. He also emphasized the importance of building a future where every community sees itself represented.
Commissioner Gary Jackson echoed these sentiments by stating that Colorado's story cannot be told through one perspective alone. As we commemorate 150 years of statehood, it is essential to honor the many cultures, Tribal Nations, diverse communities, and individuals whose contributions have shaped Colorado. He also invited all Coloradans to see themselves as part of the shared history and future of the state.
The America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission encourages everyone to participate in Colorado Day activities and continue the journey throughout the year. Information about events, Signature Initiatives, and ways to get involved can be found on their website at Am250CO150.org. This historic milestone is a time for all Coloradans to come together and celebrate their state's rich history and look forward to what the next 150 years will bring.
