Governor Polis Highlights Colorado as a Leader in Education and Celebrates National Clean Energy Week in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. ~ Washington D.C. - Governor Jared Polis of Colorado took the stage at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education today to discuss the state's achievements and future plans for educational policy in the United States. He was joined by former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin for a fireside chat.
During his speech, Governor Polis highlighted Colorado's ranking as the number one state for education, citing investments in students, educators, and families as key factors. He emphasized the importance of early education through programs like Universal Preschool and free full-day Kindergarten, as well as afterschool tutoring and learning opportunities. The governor also spoke about enhancing school choice, linking skills to workforce needs, fully funding schools, and creating career pathways for all Coloradans.
Governor Polis also shared his excitement about Colorado's participation in a new federal education tax credit that encourages charitable giving to support students across the state. He expressed his eagerness to work with national leaders to improve educational outcomes and make America a global leader in education.

In July of this year, Governor Polis celebrated Colorado's recognition as the Best State for Education by US News and World Report. This achievement was preceded by bipartisan legislation signed by the governor in 2019 that established free full-day Kindergarten in Colorado. This was followed by voters approving free preschool starting in 2023, which currently saves families over $6,300 per year. In addition, over 49,000 three and four-year-olds were served by free preschool in Program Year 2024-2025, with an expected increase to over 60,000 children in Program Year 2025-2026.
Governor Polis also delivered a keynote address at the National Clean Energy Week reception hosted by Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES). This annual week-long celebration focuses on clean energy innovation and solutions.
During his speech at the reception, Governor Polis highlighted Colorado's efforts towards clean energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He spoke about the state's investments in renewable energy and how it has made Colorado more competitive. The governor also mentioned collaborations with international partners in Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom to share ideas and technology for protecting the environment.

Colorado is on track to cut power sector emissions by over 80% by 2030. The state has also launched the Energy Savings Navigator, a tool that helps residents find and apply for energy rebates at the local, state, federal, and utility levels. This initiative aims to connect people with new clean energy technology and take advantage of statewide clean energy tax credits. As Chair of the Western Governors' Association in 2022, Governor Polis launched "Heat Beneath Our Feet," an initiative focused on utilizing Colorado's unique geographic makeup to harness geothermal energy for heating homes, businesses, and schools.
