Hunters Run "PLAY FOR P.I.N.K" Committee Striving To Give Hope

Hunters Run Country Club's PLAY FOR P.I.N.K 2022 Donations Reach $157,482
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - TelAve -- Since 2015, the Hunters Run Country Club "Play for P.I.N.K." Committee has raised nearly $1 million for breast cancer research. The cumulative donation from Hunters Run is a noteworthy feat unto itself, but according to Larry Savvides, Chief Operating Officer, it goes well beyond the money. The membership never loses hope that researchers will find a cure.
He explains, "I had the privilege to work at wonderful clubs throughout my career. But nothing comes close to the determination and enthusiasm our members demonstrate in their fundraising efforts for a charity they wholeheartedly support. Play for P.I.N.K. is one of those charities. The memberships' tireless efforts over the past seven years in raising close to $1 million for breast cancer research are a testament to their total support for those who are stricken with breast cancer and their families. I am very fortunate to be affiliated with these incredible members."

Play for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) is a fundraising organization founded by Laura Lassman in 1990 when she organized a golf tournament to help support a friend undergoing breast cancer treatment. Since then, Play for P.I.N.K. has served as a catalyst for 300 fundraisers annually held by volunteers in 28 states.
Sue Rappaport, one of Hunters Run Play for P.I.N.K. chairs, notes, "In 2015, we came together to support cancer research, something that was very dear to all of us. Being a noted golf community, we put our members to task and set up a Play for P.I.N.K. golf tournament which then led to other fundraising activities at the Club including racquet sports joining in the P.I.N.K. efforts. The four Play for P.I.N.K. golf chairs, Willyce Barr, Lynn Borislow, Diane Soroka and I have worked continually for the last seven years to increase the yearly charitable donations to Breast Cancer Research."
"This year, we raised $157,482 with additional help from members Barry and Beth Evans who were the Play for P.I.N.K. Chairs for Racquet Sports. That was quite an achievement. Since 2015, the total amount was raised through golf, tennis, and pickleball tournaments, shopping sprees, donations, merchandise sales, signs on the golf course and tribute walls at our Racquet Sports Center. Even the Club's Car Club donated a significant check. It is very gratifying for us to know we can all play a part in fighting this horrible disease. While our major sports events for Play for P.I.N.K. take place in March every year, we never stop raising money at any time," said Ms. Rappaport.

Hunters Run has already raised over $500 for next year's donation by selling beaded socks created by Committee members. Adds Ms. Rappaport, "We are also grateful for the support of the Hunters Run Management Team, Larry Savvides, Graham Cordrey, John Oyler, Penny Hammel, retired Racquet Sports Director Dave Cordrey, Mali Hall and their employees for all their time, advice, and the cooperation they provide us in making these events so successful. Nonetheless, without the contributions and participation of the Hunters Run Country Club members, their families and friends, we could never be this successful. We will never lose hope that someday one of the breast cancer researchers will find a cure."
